Wrong fuel connector?

I need some help. Is it possible that my 84 140 evinrude could be running like **** because of a wrong fuel connector at the motor? I had my motor installed at a mercury dealer and did not take him any connectors. When I looked at the fuel connector to the motor last night it looks different. The little fuel valve sits lower in the plastic housing than my old one did. Im thinking that maybe the stem on the motor is not long enough to push the valve open all the way. The motor idles ok but does not want to run with anything past a quarter throddle. Could this be my problem or are all connectors the same? I have posted this in another thread but no responces yet.

Could well be a problem.
There is a Merc part that LOOKS the same but is "not quite right".
You can order the correct part here at iboats.

Re: Wrong fuel connector?

Ok. I went to my shop during my lunch break to look at my old connector. Way different than the one thats on the motor right now. Then I went down to the local Johnson/Evinrude dealer to look at a new one. The new one and the one thats on the boat look the same but much different from the old one. Im not sure if there are different models for different years but its worth trying the old one anyways.
