Received a tiny tach today model TT226R-2xl,I beleive it's the wrong one seeing that I'm idling at 1850rpm and WOT would be over 9999rpm.My outboards a 1991 DT40 Suzuki,I told them it was a 2 cyclinder 2 stroke hopefully that was right.Thats what she said i needed for a tach,is it posible I have a bad ground or something along those lines?

Re: wrong one?

The model number appears correct for your engine however it's reading about double what it should. Are you sure you don't have the pickup lead from the spark plug routed close to the other cylinder so it is really getting two pulses per rev instead of one? route that wire well away from the other ignition components including adjacent coils. It may also be that the wrong unit was packed in the wrong box.

Re: wrong one?

I was thinking the same thing.Out on the water I tried changing it to the other spark wire thinking that might be a problem, that didn't work.
I must admite I didn't play with it much because I was fishing with my son and trying out my new to me PD50 trolling motor(which is a bit noisy).
I think I'll go to town and buy some muffs so I can start it at home and play with it.The spark plug wire cables are alittle close to one another plus maybe I have to space my wraps around the spark plug wire more.Just easier to play with when not out on the water.
I shouldn't rev above 1500rpm when the muffs are on right??or at least for not that long
