wrong trailer!

Last summer, let my buddy borrow my little pontoon to take out his gf and her kid. It was a small 16ft pontoon w/ a 30hp evinrude and would scare you to death when you had it out on the river.(did not handle wake from other boats well at all!) After about 3hrs up the Kanawha River, they had enough of it. He had put it in WAY down river and did not want to make the long trip back, so he calls another friend of his to go get the trailer off his truck and meet him at a closer ramp. No problem! WRONG! Guy backs "my" trailer into water, they load boat and pull up ramp to find trailer is now 8ft longer than boat. OOPS! Turns out there were 2 silver Dodges w/ pontoon trailers at other ramp. They head back to other ramp as fast as they can. Have to explain to cops and other boat owner what happened. All had good laugh, cops left, time to switch out boats and trailers. Back my boat (still on wrong trailer) in water, get it off, and goes to pull up in lot to swap trailers. Well, remember my boat was 8ft shorter so yep, he had backed trailer off end of ramp. By the time they were done they had destroyed the other boat owner's draw bar for his hitch and nearly ripped the small front deck off my pontoon. (don't know how they accomplished either of these feats) Oh well! He felt so bad about all of it I ended up getting a good deal on his Stingray CC (wasn't running but I got that fixed)

Look on the bright side...you must live in the one part of the world, where no one thinks that padlocking their trailers to their trucks, is necessary!

Absolutely!!! I always padlock my trailers to the hitch. I read somewhere up in here where some kids thought it would be funny to pull the lock pins on trailers as they were parked. If you steal my boat I don't want it back... really, I'm okay with that. I'd be angry but that's why we carry insurance. My fear was I'd miss the prank and my trailer jumps off the ball and hurts some innocent person as I'm trailering the boat back home.

That is funny that two identical trucks would have the same keys parked at the same location... Glad it worked out in the end!!!

I reckon they used a different vehicle and just unhooked the trailer from the hitch as it sounds like the person doing the favor never met them at the ramp. Otherwise they would have drive and get his own vehicle...
