Engine does not charge battery (runs at 12 volts), dealership stated that the voltage regulator for this engine had a recall but since the recall has expired, they will not cover the voltage regulator.
Engine is as follows:
2003 Mercury 4 stroke EFI 60 hp (big Foot)
Family 3M9XM9952GE
S/N OT626768
60ELPTEFI

Stealership gets $180+ but I believe they will not sell to end user, they only will install themselves.

If anyone has any suggestions where to buy this voltage regulator / Kit, please let me know. Also, if anyone knows the part number, that would be appreciated.

Thanks

Scott

Re: wtb voltage regulator kit for 2003 EFI mercury bigfoot

Hello everyone,

I am in desperate need of a voltage regulator for my 2003 mercury big foot 60 hp 4 stroke EFI out board motor. The part number on the regulator is 883071-1.

Question - I am not finding this part number for sale anywhere, where can I buy the correct, non recall voltage regulator?
- Is there any other voltage regulator part numbers that I can replace this unit with.

Thanks for any help or suggestions

Re: wtb voltage regulator kit for 2003 EFI mercury bigfoot

Hello.
I too have a 2003 60hp EFI 4 stroke and my regulator failed last January 2010. I had it replaced and a few other parts for free by my local dealer ie there was a cooling plate that the regulator bolts onto, it was replaced too, and also a temp sensor/sender so says the workshop dude.

My question now is, I have lost some top end speed and my motor will now only rev out to 5400rpm and top speed is now only 44km/hr. Before the regulator blew up my boat would rev out to 5800rpm and travel at 50.5km/hr , as stated by my onboard gps plotter and the rev guage. Since having the replacment regulator i now rev out to 5400rpm and top out at 44km/hr, nothing else has changed. The engine purrs like a kitten, doesn't miss a beat but my top end speed is now down. Would anyone have any suggestions? There are no audible alarms and the charging circuit is now fully functioning. Would the fitting of a new regulator have anything to do with max rpm at load? I have booked the boat back into the workshop that replaced the regulator and they will put the diagnostic computer onto the computer engine management system. They tell me that this should see if there has been any alarms or drop in rpm. Anyone know more about this? Has anyone who has had the regulator replaced had any drop in performance? Has the regultor got an inbuilt rev limiter?
Thanks for your time guys.
cheers
