NOTE: This post is an opinion and nothing more!

TERRORIST'S 2 / USA 0

The plans for the replacement of the new buildings at the site of the former World Trade Center have been released.

Has anyone seen them yet?

What a joke!

They intend to build a new tower with 5 other buildings and plans to restore the street grid, so now motorist's will be driving over this sacred ground!

Who asked for this?

Does this design really reflect our resolve ?

I don't think so.

The terrorist's took out a total of 7 buildings including the 2 towers.

The proposal calls for 1 tower with 5 smaller buildings.

The plans also call for a large portion of the site to be made into residentual space, instead of the commercial space that is so urgently needed in lower Manhattan!

The Port Authority of NY&NJ had the wisdom, back in the 1960's to look 30 years into the future, to forecast the needs of the buildings they built.

The developers today are only looking at today in their designs, not the future, and the economy of NY will forever suffer if this present proposed plan is built!

These buildings that they are proposing are already falling short of the needs of the city!

If this proposed plan is built, the terrorist's have won!

Kenny

Re: WTC - Tragedy to Travesty

So...

How do we get the word out to the rest of this country of the travisty that is about to take place?

I see the Pentagon has been repaired and it looks just like it did before, like it should!

Why not the World Trade Center??

As far as the answer to mellowyellow's question of who is responsible for the decision...

It's a group called "Lower Manhattan Development Corp. (LMDC).

This group of charactors was assembled by the Governors of NY & NJ.

The lease holder of the property so far has had no say as to what will be built on his property , this group of liberal passifists are telling him what he will build on his property , once again allowing the terrorist's another victory!!

This group of liberal passifists has no intention of looking at the needs of the city and intends to build what they want, not what the city needs!

Sorry to rant, but this is really pizzing me off!

Kenny

P.S. Thanks jgregory for that link.

Kenny, get FoxNews involved and bring to the forefort the thousands of petitions FOR rebuilding the towers to the public's attention, and how thy are being ignored. Many outsiders probably feel this is what NY'rs want. Problem is, this travesty did not just happen to NY, it happened to America. Its time for us all to stand tall, as tall as those towers and see that the terrorists do not win.

Hi LadyFish,

That's a good idea to call FoxNews.

Only problem is that I have been trying to call for the last 45 minutes and can't get through!

But...I'll keep trying.

Going to try the other networks too!

I will need assistance in get the point across, because one voice is not enough, so anyone who can, call the media and let them know how you feel, and maybe we can get the city to build what should be built...the World Trade Center, as it was , not the "fantasyland" that is being rammed down our throats!

Tell your freinds and relatives to call too!

Let's get the word out and stop the travisty that is about to happen.

Kenny

Re: WTC - Tragedy to Travesty

So who gets to pay for the empty office space??
There is too many empty offices now, and building ever more makes no sense. And what about the effect on landlords of other office spaces, when further oversupply depresses the revenues they can expect.
who will compensate them?
Build what is needed, and is marketable.

There should be a memorial, no question, but it should make sense in the grand scheme of NYC's urban development plan. As things are taken down and destroyed, other things are built. That is what NYC, and America, is about.

Re: WTC - Tragedy to Travesty

what they need to do is build two towers, 2001 feet high

and thats for starters

a memorial tower should be built 2911 feet high

AMERICA should have the tallest buildings in the world not some dink gook hole,

and it should be a treated like a military shrine, if you get caught with bombs, you die

period

no buII****, no trials, babeeb, you have BOMB, you are sumarily held in high treason, wail to allah, cause here comes a barrage of bullets

give pilots guns with rubber bullets, blast em right betwen the rags

better yet, bring back the Vlad the Impaler days, leave em twisting on sharpened sticks to spend a few days dying, none of this babeeb go boom bull

way WAY better than that, make money from the deal

open a NYC lottery, winners get to play Dice O Matic with convicted terrorist, and simulcast the shows all over the middle east, well, every place that isnt a pile of camel sh!t covered in sand ... if they have a TV, they watch Brothers of Islam paying the NYC price for messin with NYC

hack em, stab em chainsaw em, bash thier ragheaded brains in, enough wailing ragheads and they will stop "be great martyr for allah" REAL F'IN QUICK

Re: WTC - Tragedy to Travesty

So plywoody,

What you are saying is to build a building that will have 100% occupancy in 6 months, instead of buildings that would meet the needs of the city in 10-20 years like the original buildings did?

Where do you come off saying that there is a surplus of office space?

Why then have most companies that occupied the WTC, have had to move their operations to New Jersey until a replacement is built?

Can you say LACK OF SPACE !

You cannot find office space here in NYC, and what little is available is so expensive and inadaquite in square footage!

Plywoody, ever since I first saw one of your posts, your reponses have been conjecture and never based on facts!

Why don't you learn how to read, you might get somewhere other than where your misinformed mind takes you!

Take a walk out of your little cabin in the woods and come into the real world!

If I have offended you...GOOD, I am and have been offended by every one of your posts!

Maybe if you stopped looking at everything so negatively, you might for once be able to see the light at the end of one of your dead end tunnels you travel down!

Kenny

Re: WTC - Tragedy to Travesty

You haven't said exactly what was wrong with the proposed design, other than you just don't like it.

The original buildings had around 10 million square feet of office space. The new ones are to have between 8 and 10 million in office space. The design of the new ones needs to be in keeping with the design of the original where there was a huge open area between the buildings with a lot of light and areas for people to meet. The road, subways, and PATH train network is being rebuilt in the area but there were always transportation activities here. This was a major meeting place for all the transportation activities in lower Manhattan. The new site will sit on the footprint of the original site.

The new design will have a memorial as a part of it that the Port Authority is now in the process of working on.

One thing that the government does do pretty well is create memorials. Usually through design competitions where everyone is asked to submit. I'm sure that the final look of the memorial will be breathtaking. Look at the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Memorial, the Tomb on the Unknown Soldier, the Vietnam War Memorial.

No design is going to make everyone happy and you are always free to voice your displeasure. But looking at the designers website it looks as if they have already progressed a long way down the design path. I don't think your going to change it much now. The time to have said something was over a year ago when the Port Authority group was selecting the architect for the project.

The Development Corp that was set up to oversee the rebuilding has approved grants of over $750 million to rebuild the telephone and utility system damaged during the attack, $150 million in short term work, and $75 million in small business loans to help the areas business. Thats around $1 billion for the lower Manhattan area for the support of business.

That sounds like a lot of money doesn't it. Do you realize that we spend that much in Iraq in about 4 days.
