I disagree with you both and resent your comments about the rest of us not caring. We ALL remember. In fact, many have children or family or friends fighting for their life and our freedom right now as a direct result of that tragic day.

We ALL remember.
Sorry LF, meant no disrespect, but when you have a loved one that real close to you killed in that disaster, you kinda get bent out of shape every once in a while.

Man, I'm glad I'm going fishing.

Re: WTC - Tragedy to Travesty

wvit100,

The major problem of the design is that it does not meet the needs of the future.

The original buildings had over 12 million square feet.

The new design calls for just under 10 million square feet.

The original buildings at the time of their demise, was near 100% occupied.

So, if you build less square footage, how does that meet the needs of the future, when 12 million square feet weren't enough?

And yes, I don't like the plans that they have come up with.

The terrorist's destroyed 2 landmark towers and 5 smaller buildings.

New design incorporates 1 tower with 5 smaller buildings.

This is not what was promised to the people of NY right after the attacks!

NYers were told that the 2 towers would be replaced!

That is what the people here, that I've talked to, have all said and beleived would happen.

NOW, there have been many people who have expressed their dislike for the designs here in NY, but those points of view are deliberatly kept out of the news because the conglomerate "LMDC" has seen to that, and seen to it that their ideas and plans are the only "right plans" and are completly leaving public opinion out of the negotiations, and is using the news media to see to it.

The protests of the buildings designed are NEVER EVER COVERED ON THE NEWS!

So, unless you are here in NYC, most people would not know about that!

LMDC has a big opportunity here to give the people of NY what the city needs, OFFICE SPACE, and still be able to construct appropriate memorials to those who died.

Did you know that the WTC site has grown in size?

It's now 22 acres!!

Yet, there will be less square footage?

Then you claim that something should have been said over a year ago at the begginning of the design phase, well let me tell you how that worked...

In order to get into one of those planning meetings, you had to go through an interview, in which if the LMDC determined that you and the organization you represent were not a threat to their plans for the site, you were admitted into the meetings.

A very large group that promoted the rebuilding of the original design, were barred from these proceedings!

A large group that opposed the reconstruction of the street grid over that hallowed ground , were barred from these proceedings!

A large group that opposed building anything at that site, were also barred from these proceedings!

So when did anyone have an opportunity to oppose the designs that they are planning to build!

The LMDC has been hellbent on building what they percieved as the future of lower Manhattan, not what the needs of lower Manhattan!

Hope you are ready to start trading your stocks on the New Jersey Stock Exchange , because thats where they are going to be moving to, when the square footage of office space required to sustain the stock exchange here in Manhattan has been depleted, which by the way, has already has been depleted.

When lower Manhattan looses the stock exchange, then there would be no need to build anything on that site other than a memorial.

Kenny

Kenny, I have been silent on this issue other than to post the web site for the Port Authority because You have said everything and more than I could say!

I don't have your perspective, I was not there, BUT I did see them burning from a vantage point in the Township. And as a former Firefighter/EMT when I heard that they collasped I died inside for all my brothers that were doing there job saving lives.

Everone that works for my township feel the same as you do, We have started a petition drive here to do something bigger and better. For what good it will do! But maybe, if enough of us get together we can make them rethink their plans. I believe the PA as gotten more involved in the memorial aspect than the "in your face" attitude that some of us feel.

I think the biggest problem is that the media is on board and if sold succesfully to them we do not stand aaa chance.IMHO

So Kenny I'm with you 110% if you need something give a yell.

LadyFish,

Sorry that you took offence to my posts, but if you re-read you will find that I never said that anyone has forgotten.

I said:
I sure do hope nobody is forgetting!
The reason I have said that is because I have heard alot of visitors from around the world, here visiting in NY, say after veiwing "Ground Zero", "I don't see the big deal, it's just a big hole!"

That is why I raised the question of people forgetting.

Once again, sorry if I offended you, that was not my intention.

Kenny

Re: WTC - Tragedy to Travesty

Hmmm...That's not what my sources tell me-that there is a big shortage of office space in NYC--but whatever-it makes no difference.

Your emotional appeal for buildings that exude some sort of macho display of defiance does sound more like it originates on a grade school playground rather than the offices of sophisticated NYC urban planners, however.

The terrorists won't like us any better or worse no matter what we build, and there will always be targets.

And if there is indeed a shortage of office space in NYC, it will be built. It is called the capitalist system, and forces of supply and demand will alter it in due time.

And no, not to worry, you cannot offend me. In a democracy, we are supposed to have civilized debate. Why would a difference of opinion offend anyone?

Debate is good in a "free" society-true.

We do not live in a true democracy, it is a representative republic. True democrocies fail due to mob rule.

There is nothing more dangerous than a large group of uninformed people.
