I've been using XD50 in my '94 60 HP and haven't had any issues but now that i need some more I can see that i can get XD100 for about $15 less per gallon than the XD50. Is there any harm to using the 100 in these motors? What are the advantages (if any) of the 100 over the 50?

15$ cheaper .... buy 20 gallons ! xd 100 is near smokeless odorless and provides Carbon guard to clean the cyl innards :)

Now that would be a bargain! I live in a small town and the only shop in town is selling XD50 for $66 and XD100 for $50. Looking around online, it doesn't look like XD50 gets much less than $50 when buying in single gallons. I'll give the 100 a shot. Thanks.

with that being the case you might want to look into Pennzoil Premium Plus as well. I buy PPP at my local auto parts store for $18 per gallon.

PPP is my oil of choice if I can’t get a good deal on XD 50. I see no difference between PPP and XD performance wise. Ie smoke, smell, etc.

PPP doesn’t have carbon guard. If you have a carbon problem you will need to add a carbon cleaner of some sort. I decarb as part of my Spring commissioning routine and don't worry about it.

I dont go through a gallon of Oil in a year so if the XD100 will keep me from having to buy and add any carbon inhibitors and/or prevent me from having to decarb each year then I'll gladly pay the price difference. Can you confirm that's the case?

A synthetic blend oil that delivers dependable performance under heavy use conditions. It also requires less maintenance. XD100 meets the specific demand of direct injection outboards and water-cooled 2-cycle outboard engines. More reliable, less maintenance. That's really all you need to remember.
  • Reduces smoke for cleaner operation
  • Protects against wear with superior lubricity
  • Contains CarbX™ Combustion Cleaner
