I am hoping someone with this unit can offer a suggestion for what is going on. I have a 93 Sunbird, 5.0L Ford V8. I have owned this boat for three years and it has been great. On the 4th of July, as I was heading back to the ramp, I started getting a loud whine from the drive belts. It was a 30 minute run back to the ramp, and when I got her home, I saw that the alternator belt was very frayed, and I noticed a fine black dust (from the belt?) on the inside of the engine compartment. I took the ALT and PS belts off and saw that the alternator was a little rough in turning, so I had it rebuilt and I put new belts on. Now, the boat runs great again and the whine is completely gone, but my fume detector is acting odd. It runs the blower constantly, even after high-speed runs. I smell no fumes whatsoever. I'm thinking maybe some of the dust from the failing belt might've landed on the sensor, making it detect fumes even when there aren't any, but what is odd is I no longer have any lights on the dash mounted control head of the fume detector. Holding the test button does nothing, and I have no alarm sound, but the blower runs whenever I have the ignition in the on position. I'm fearing I'm gonna need a new detector, but if anyone has experience trouble shooting the fume detector, I'm all ears. Thanks.
