I recently put some new shutter valves in my y-pipes mine were burnt and gone so i dont know what they look like the new ones are oval shaped with rubber and metal body they move freely on the pins until you install them in the pipe with the bushings then you can move them with your fingers but they are not absolutely free they wont fall open if you shut them and i wonder if they should if so what could the problem be? Its an 83 mercruiser 3 inch y-pipe any advice as to wich direction the bushings go or the valves go etc. would be appreciated. Seems like they can only go in one way with the shaft on top and the bushings installed inside the tube towards the outside.

Thats the way they are supposed to work.Closed until the exhaust pushes it open and then closed again.Charlie
