Yahama 2 Stroke crack at Temp Sender Housing (updated with Picture)

****NOTE**** I added a picture showing the crack I am talking about. Options are.

1.) JBWeld.
2.) Marine Tex.
3.) Machine shop for weld.

Any advise appreciated.

Just noticed two cracks at the place in the block where the temp sendor goes.

1.) Is this a common problems on these motors, (1988 70 HP).

2.) Any luck with JB Weld. I think if I sand the area good and may be drill a small hole near the base of the crack it may hole. Concern is that the crack is on the outside of a theaded area.

Just bought the motor.

I do not think the seller even knew. The crack does not go thru all the way to the inner threads but it is getting kinda wide at one point, (almost 1/8').

Last time I used jb weld was on a Mrec. between spark plug base and cly cover.

What a bummer on this motor. I am surprised a Yamaha cracked like this. This is my first yahama.

Any advise greatly appreciated!

I had a crack in the same place on my 1987 115 Yamaha right on the top of where you are talking about. Water was ooozzing out slowly. I let it dry really and used JB waterweld. I have used it for two seasons since that and nothing wrong with it. I keep a eye on it though as im sure anyone would if they knew that they had something like that on their outboard.

remove the sensor, repair crack with JB Weld, clean sensor threads very well, as this may have started as a corrosion problem and replace sensor with the teflon pipe compound. If you can get a small stainless steel aeroclamp around the cracked area it would help prevent it spreading and cracking again....and good luck!
