Yahama I/O V-6 Stalling

I have a Yamaha I/O that will not idle with throttle in the upright position. When I do get it in gear it runs great until I try to slow down to dock then it will stall or run very very rough. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to iboats Bailey<br /><br />Please post a little more info on the engine size and year.<br /><br />Have you done anything to try and remedy the problem?

It is a 93 with a V-6. Have not done anything as of yet. Ran it in the driveway a couple of times before taking it out. As in the driveway as in the lake it just will not idle down. Makes it hard to dock and pick up tubers. There are not a lot of mechanics who will touch Yamahas anymore. The closest place is an hour away and I doubt I would see the boat until next year. Any help is appreciated.

Well lets see, I'll guess its a EST rather than the YEMS model of the 4.3. Sounds to me like you have a carb rebuilding in your future. If it runs good off idle but goes to crap at idle, then sounds like the low speed circuit is dirty.

Hi Capt Ken. I have spoken to you before. Ordered parts from you in the past. What do i need to do to rebuild the carb? When I put her to bed last winter she was idling fine. But could not and can not get her to idle when I woke her up? What other information can I supply about the motor?<br /><br />Matt

You have a Chevy V6??<br /><br />If so, write down the 7 or 8 digit stamping on the side of the carb and take it to NAPA for a kit. Just bought one this week for a 2 barrell...$22.50

It uses a standard marine quadajet carb so just get a kit for one at any marine parts store. Just be sure to get all the passages clear before reassembling.
