yam 4 stroke drive/crankcase seal?

Buddy changed his oil on 04 225 4 stroke yam.and made a huge mess.This was in Jan.used boat this week and has a oil leak that is coming out of the small drain holes on lower unit.we pulled the lower and it seems?that the oil is leaking from the top of the drive shaft /actually the bottom of powerhead.My thought is the the mess from the spilled oil is still finding its way out.Is there any possibility of a seal going bad that allows crankcase oil to leak down.The dip stick shows no loss.Any input is apppreciated.Mike

most likly its still dripping, use dawn dishwahing liquid and water and thourouly wash the lower pan.

To answer your question, yes the oil seal can leak on that engine. On the F225 it is located at the bottom of the powerhead. You can easily check that area for leaks with the gear case on by looking under the lower pan behind the tiller arm on the engine.
