Yamaha 115 idle tuning

I have a '97 Yammie 115 2 stroke that generally runs well. The only adjustment on the carbs is the pilot air screw with a nominal setting of 1.5 turns out from bottom. Is there a way to tune the idle setting other than by ear? There must be a way to dial the mixture in to the optimum setting. A sniffer, an analyzer? Any thoughts on this?

I have the exact same motor.Only other fine tuning I know of on the adjustment is too "tirm' the adj. screw when idling on the water.

Check the idle timing, too high or low will cause idling problems.

Good call!!
Idle timing screw was loose. Added a lock nut and reset to the mark on the flywheel. Idles nice now. Will confirm with test run later this week. Thanks - Scott
