I have a 1988 yamaha 115 witch stalls when I open the throttle from idle.
It idles fine in and out of gear and runs fine once at open throttle, but the only way to get it there, is to flick the choke before I advance the throttle.
I have taken of the carb's and cleaned them and set them as per manual. I have tried leaning and richening the mixture needle + new plugs

Any suggestions
Liam

Re: Yamaha 115 stalling

hello
check your fuel pump or better yet replace or rebuild it. but it sounds like the main jets in the carbs are clogged. sometimes as the pumps get weak they wont keep the fuelbowls full at low speeds and on rapid acceleration it will start to take off and fall on its face as the fuel bowls empty. on very slow acceleration it may go ahead and run. the trick with an outboard is to fix it with maint long before it breaks.
