I've done quite a bit of research and have not been able to find a solution to my overheating problem. I have a 1990 Yamaha 130HP V4 that only overheats at high RPM (~3000 or higher) for an extended period of time (~3 or more minutes). I can idle all day long, strong pee stream. Took the boat out today and ran it until the alarm went off so I popped the cowling and touched my hand to the thermostat housing. It was hot to the touch and I couldn't keep my hand on the housing. I've replaced both thermostats, water pump kit, pulled the water jacket covers and thermostat housings and cleaned the passages. There was some corrosion but not enough to create blockages. I did not expose everything to the heads, I'm guessing just the back side of the jackets is left. I pulled the PRV and everything looked in order. The rubber grommet didn't have any grooving. Should I replace the spring and plastic valve just in case? Any other thoughts on what to do? I can borrow an infared gun to shoot the temperature under speed, where should I check, thermo housing? Thanks in advance for the help.
