I have a 2000 Yamaha 130 hp.

It idles fine, but when throttled up under load, it maxes out at 2200 RPM's.

If not in gear, I get the full range of RPM's.

I replaced the plugs (quite fouled) with new plugs.

The motor ran well for thirty seconds, through the normal RPM range, then bogged down again.

On the way back to the ramp, it kicked up to 3500 RPM's, but only for a moment.

The motor has run flawlessly up until now and been serviced regularly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

while replacing the filter after its passed trash/water is nice if the stuff is in the carbs aint but one way to get it out and continuing to run it aint one of them.
trick is to keep an eye on the filter, they are cheap.
you may also look into testing the high speed charge coil as per the service manual.
Ray
why do fools spool up a motor with no load? I mean if all ya want is RPM throw the prop away.

Trying to test the bearings would be my guess. Had a driver try to leave the starting line once with out the motor in gear. The flywheel went through the cowling when the crank broke. Top main failed that test.
