I'm looking at a used boat with a 1998 S150TXRX salt water series II motor on it. I know nothing about Yam motors except I see alot of them on the water.

The motor looks new, only thing the T&T isn't working and haven't even tried to see what is wrong yet.

I want to do a compression check and hear it run next. Any thing else to look at? There is no hour meter but a proprietary tach guage. Does yamaha use another way to tell hours?

Can get boat, motor and trailer for around $3200. Does that seem about right? Any help from you guys can give me about this motor would greatly be appreciated. Spending money I don't really have so I need to do it right.

Re: Yamaha 150

Well I guess from the lack of a response I must have a very rare brass monkey and worth alot of $$$$ !!

Well after doing a compression check (120 across all 6) and running I took the plunge and bought it. Needs a little work on T&T beside that it looks and runs great.

Will have to see how the prop on it works on my boat once I make the swap over. My also need long cables and have to find a place for the oil tank and I'm sure something else will come up if murphy's law is out.
