I've got a 1988 175 yamaha 25". I intend this winter to remove the powerhead and replace the steering arm. The shift shaft appears to have been replaced already as a magnet will not stick to it. I can see the holes where someone has drilled through the exhaust guide to separate the powerhead prior to my owning it. Since I will have it apart, I have a complete lower unit, cowling, etc for a 1991 which looks a lot nicer than my 88. Also, the exhaust guide is still in great shape. This newer model also allows for the cables and hoses to route through a tube rather than just hanging out the transom . My question is; will the 1988 powerhead drop on to the 1991 cowling, upper casing, etc.?
I basically have a complete "freshwater" 1991 motor, but no powerhead; t&t, brackets, SS steering tube, etc. are all there, just no powerhead.
