So I have been fixing everything up with my engines the past few days and one of the things that i swapped was the tilt motors on because they were rotting through really bad and on my motor a 94 225 saltwater series engine. anyways to sum it up on my left engine I know the relay is bad when i hit up it goes up and when i hit down it just clicks. Now i know its not the motors because i reversed the wires and it goes down just fine.

Now because it is ticking there might be hope of life i'm wondering. I don't want to run into this blind but the part number is 61A-81950-01-0. You all think maybe a connection is getting bad contact even if it is clicking and there is no go? Also if anyone has knowledge separating the relay and cleaning it let me know. Thanks!

bump.

So I figured out my relay is just totally wiped out from corrosion and rust no way i could just clean it.

I am wondering if i can guy 2 properly equipped 4 prong relays from an auto store or w.e so i can take the boat out and if someone knows what the load is for the tilt motor for a Yamaha 225txrs. I want to go out really bad this weekend and test the boat and I will get a proper relay next week in my world i figure this cheap temp fix will work just fine.

So if someone could tell me what the amp load is on the tilt motor that would be great, and also any input for my idea so i can use it this weekend would be great.

about 40 to 50 amps depending on prop thrust load when trimming.
several other part numbers will fit your application just the wire lead lengths differ.

My friend you are my hero!
I know the relay is a simple simple design and if i get 2 40-50 amp relays and order my replacement next week i should be good then.

Any tips on doing this I already know the wiring will be a simple. Or even what kind of cheap generic 12v relay to buy at a local parts place?

never tried rigging without correct parts before and I am not sure anyone else has either, or will admit they did.
