Hello to the forum - this is my first post so please excuse any breaches in protocol ! I've followed posts on here for a while so took the plunge and joined.
I'm in the UK and have just bought a Yamaha engine for a small inflatable air floor v hull. I knew the engine was a non runner but thought being a Yamaha I could get a manual to cover it and do the work myself. Seems it's too old to get a manual for.
So my first problem is getting a good workshop manual - the sort that would give me data for points and timing, how to test the coils or magneto for problems?
Secondly there isn't a spark on either plug, so I don't think its both coils failed. It has stood for a couple of years, and I heard stories of magnetos becoming de magnetised over time - at least on the old British Seagulls. The engine did run apparently, and there's no reason for the seller to say it has as I'd already bought it by then!
Any ideas on a source of info for the motor, or tips on a proceedure for checking for sparking problems?
