I have twin 1990 yamaha 200 2 strokes. One of them revs to 4800rpm and is great. The other falls on its face at 2100rpm but will rev to 4100 on plane. It overheats after full throttle for 10 minutes. It doesnt overheat with both motors running at 3800 rpm. I am thinking about pulling the carbs and cleaning them. I am a mechanic but not a boat mechanic. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: yamaha 200 overheats/power issues

post the full model numbers off the port bracket.
do you have the yamaha gauges? are there any indicator or warning lights coming on/flashing??

sounds like you have a couple of issues.
overheat - waterpump/tstats
bogging down - fuel pumps/trash in the carbs.
what has the maint history been?

Re: yamaha 200 overheats/power issues

Yamaha 200ETXD is the modle number. Im unsure if my guages are yamaha, but I do have a arrow above the yellow oil can guage. There is a red low level gauge to the left and a green full level guage to the right. The other motor has a arrow above the green guage. I have a pic of the guage but don't know how to up load it. Could this put the motor in a limp home mode? I just bought the boat and don't know the maintains records on the motors, but both motors compression is 95-110. thanks
