Re: YAMAHA 200 Saltwater EFI

hello
the engine really had no problems.
most problems were and are customer induced. clean the O2 sensor every 75 to 100 hours. do the maint by the 100 or 200 hour OR annually.
good luck and keep posting

Re: YAMAHA 200 Saltwater EFI

hello
one other tidbit.
if at anytime the motor feels lazy or just doesnt want to turn past 4000 rpm shut it down. the O2 sensor can fail and that is a symptom. the computer will react to a bogus signal and lean out the fuel at RPM's above 4 K. causing #1 piston to eat itself. also clean the vapor seperator filter.
good luck and find a competent tech. ask to see his gold certs for fuel systems and electrical systems as well as outboard systems class attendance

Re: YAMAHA 200 Saltwater EFI

Thanks again, My friend told me that my engine has a computer in it that can tell me how many hours are on it, but I would need to take it to a
dealer to find this out. Is this true? and also how bad on gas will this engine be? Thanks, and yes it does get cold here!

Re: YAMAHA 200 Saltwater EFI

hello
nope your engine does not have the YDIS interface, no engine hour and no laptop hookup.
but over all with careful maint its not a bad engine. I always wondered if synthetic would help or destroy the O2 sensor:) :) yammi wont say anything other than to use yamalube tcw III.
make sure the tech that works on it is at least fuel systems qualified. ask to see the gold sticker on his masters sheet
or the diploma
good luck and keep posting

I have a Grady White 209 Escape with the same engine (bought it new in 1996). Absolutely trouble free, freely runs up to 5000 rpm, gets a full 100 hour Dealer annual service although I only average about half that. If it has been well cared for you should have a winner.
