Hello, I have a '92 200TXRQ which has been shifting fine but recently developed a shifting problem when shifting from either forward to neutral or reverse to neutral, I have to move the shifter a little past the neutral position in either direction to get it to come out of gear. It shifts from neutral to both forward and reverse fine though. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Thanks, Scott

Re: yamaha 200 shifting problem

Take the cover off your engine and look for the shift linkage and see if something has come loose or needs replacement. Sound like the pivot has come loose either on your engine or your controls. Have someone move your controls while you are looking at the cable and connections. Could just be a loose adjustment lock nut etc.

It could be what you suggested. In the older Yamaha's it could also be the splined shaft has rusted to the point that the shaft twists but the splined end doesn't fully move.
