Yamaha 200 TXRQ stalling under load

I have a '92 Yamaha 200 TXRQ that will start and idle fine, even rev to high rpm's in neutral with no problems but when I put it in gear and try to give it gas it bogs down and will stall out. I can immediately pull the throttle back in time to keep it running but if not it will just choke and die. The last time we went out I idled away from the ramp for a few minutes and when I went to take off it wouldn't go, just died. I putted around for an hour trying to get it to run faster and finally did manage about 10 minutes at 3500 rpm. As I approached the marina and throttled down seemed like my issue was over. But once I tried to inch the throttle up again I was back to the stalling behavior and never could get it to run faster than idle again. By the way, it ran and did fine in the driveway before we left, seems that under load is when it has this problem.

Here's some background that might help. My boat sits alot, especially during winter, and has old gas in it treated with STABIL. Last fall I used the newer blue STABIL which supposedly is better for E10. The engine has always run like a top and even though it is a '92 it only has 500 hours on it. 2 years ago I put in a new aluminum 70 gal. fuel tank and new fuel lines. Last fall before storing, I filled the tank up to help keep condensation from forming and depositing water in the fuel. Yesterday I put on a new fuel water seperator (the old one showed no signs of water) checked the plugs (which look fine) and checked the fuel filter which was spotless.

If I recall correctly while we were out having this trouble the primer bulb was not collapsed and still tight which leads me to believe I have issues in the engine and not a fuel delivery problem from the tank. Plus when I installed the seperator it filled quickly by pumping the primer bulb, same with the filter bowl.

Any ideas what could be the problem? Any suggestions as to what I need to look for or can check next? Does this sound like a carb problem?

Thanks in advance for any ideas, suggestions or information you can provide.

Re: Yamaha 200 TXRQ stalling under load

Bump to top hoping Rodbolt is out there.

After searching the board I found many people who had this or a very similar problem. There are so many possibilities I'm not sure where to begin. Looks like it could be fuel pump(s), stator, carbs - main jets or fuel bowls, even electrical issues and corroded connections. I don't know if I even have one but also a VST filter might need cleaning or to be replaced.

Any ideas or help is appreciated.

you dont have a VST.
clean the carbs, replace both lift pumps, clean all the engine fuel lines, check the fuel system vacum at about 20 GPH at the lower lift pump intake to insure its less than 4'Hg.if your engine has a quick fuel connect either hard plumb it or replace both connectors.

Rodbolt,

What do you recommend to use for cleaning the fuel lines and how clean is clean?

Thanks in advance.

Did you guys figure out what to use for your fuel lines?
I think I have a similar issue.

go to napa and buy new. dont put the used hoses back on . the new gas today with the alc. eats up the rubber and allows it to go right back in the carbs.

How about the filter below the starter? Or some crap built up on bottom end of the pickup tube in the tank.

make sure your gas is clean.. unplug your fuel line at the little filter inside the engine shroud and pump some gas into a glass jar and make sure your gas is clean and not milky.. if its not clean then your carb's need cleaned properly, gas tank cleaned and pumped out and fresh gas replaced.. also here is one that might be wrong.. look under your flywheel on the starboard side of the motor and make sure your timing advance arm is still attached.. there is two little plastic end pieces on either side and they crack and the metal little arm pulls thru, then the engine will idle great with the spark advance all the way back, but when you add throttle it needs the spark advance to advance.. and if it does not then it will do what your motor is doing.. shutting down with rpm's.. just a thought.. hope it helps...
