My 2006 Yamaha V MAX 200 HPDI is blowing the top left 20 amp fuse that operates the key switch and the trim and tilt motor. Everything works fine with a new fuse in but yesterday with the engine running the entire day on a dolphin trip returned to the dock without ever trimming the engine brought the boat back to my home and then went to check how many miles I put on the engine and found no power to the key switch or trim and tilt. Blown 20 amp fuse. Second time in two straight trips that this has happened. Any ideas?

First thought is that should be a 30 amp fuse.

Re: Yamaha 200 V MAX blowing 20 amp fuses

I have a Yamaha 90 blowing what sounds like the same fuse. Mine is located on the engine coming off the main power line that goes into the relay and to what I think to be a chip. I've been advised that the problem doesn't sound like a bad relay. I did a search of the part number of the chip that the wire goes into, SH645-13, and only found a couple of matches, but no info. Anyone with insight to this problem please help. Same scenario though. I've replaced the 20 amp fuse, which is what is supposed to be there, and it will work temporarily sometimes and then just blow. The problem came about in a similar manner. I threw my key before heading out one morning to check the fuel level, and it worked...got to the ramp and nothing. Figured out it was the fuse.

try switching the fuel pump relay and the main power relay.
occasionally a failing relay will draw to much current.
also look for any chafed wires, especially yellow ones.
that fuse mostly holds the power relay in the on position when the ign is on.
