Att: Rod Bolt After re-building for broken piston and rings. I checked the TDC as per manual with dial guage,it was correct. When I went to the full advance check this became a little fuzzy. The book said after finding TDC with the dial gauge to set it to zero. then it says to turn flywheel clockwise untill dial gauge indicates the proper spec which is .13. My question is if you turn clock wise you move into ATDC on the flywheel markings. Yamha does not use a timing light check why is this. Thanks mike

hello
about the only part of the timing you can do with a dial indicator is find TDC and verify the pointer is at 0* on the flwywheel. the pick up timing and idle timing should be 7* ATDC and the WOT has to be checked with a test wheel, dyno or on the water with a trusted driver.set WOT timing at 22* all specs are plus or minus 2*.full throttle range is 4500-5500 rpm. there were some methoids of getting it close years ago in the manual. I dont even think they list it anymore. if you did not disturb the likage it will be close enough to
test and set.
