Yamaha 20hp 4-stroke Reviews

New to the forums. Did a number of searches but could not find much on opinions of the 20hp Yamaha 4-stroke. Elsewhwere on the internet I have seen comments that this model had some issues when they first brought it out but I can find no specifics. There was also some vague references to the problems being fixed. Hard to find anything concrete.

Anybody have any information/opinions/reviews on the Yamaha 20hp 4-stroke. I have had Yamaha 2-strokes and they worked flawlessly. I am looking to buy a new motor and 20hp is the size I need. I'm considering the Yamaha, Honda, and the Tohatsu/Nissan/Mercury models but probably favor the Yamaha from my past experiences unless there is some specific issue with the 20hp.

I have a 20 hp yamaha 4 stroke and I love it. I used to have a 20 hp 2 stroke Yamaha and recentley upgraded to the 4 stroke . I like it very much I have had no problems, it is not much heavier than the 2 stroke, and overall it runs and idles better than the 2 stroke. Before buying it I did talk to a friend who is a Yamaha rep as I was looking at a 25 hp 4 stroke, he suggested that the 20 might be a better choice as it is much lighter. I also had a neigbour who had a 25 hp and he did have quite a few issues with it. Overall I feel that it is a great engine!

Good to hear and thanks for the reply. What year is the motor, or manufacture date, or just when did you get it?

The motor was purchased new in 2008.
