Yamaha 225 Four Stroke Fuel Injector

I have a "factory" installed F225TXRA and have now had two (2) problems with fuel injectors needing to be replaced. Latest incident dealer says "not covered under warranty" due to problem being fuel related. Dirt is getting through the filters and clogging the injector. "Supposedly" Yamaha is recommending a "new" fuel filter to be used that filters out finer particles in fuel. However, the "new" fuel filters are on "national" backorder - according my my dealer. (FYI this latest little service cost me $500 and I still don't have the "new" filter to fix my problem) <br /><br />I use my boat frequently, it does not sit...well for maybe 4 weeks over the winter...that is not much. <br /><br />Anyone hear of this problem - according to my dealer - I was the first one to have a problem - in fact it took dealer 2 weeks to get fuel injector the first time I had it in.<br /><br />

A lot of these running up here, and haven't heard of any injector problems.<br /><br />Hopefully, as most boaters would, you're running a pre-engine filter, such as a Racor fuel/water separator? With one of these it's almost impossible to have problems with the engine's own filter.

Thanks for the responses.<br /><br />obiwan - In searching yamahaoutboardparts.com I find no-references to my particular problem...<br /><br />forktail - the boat came rigged from the factory - (grady white) i ASSUME that the pre-engine fuel filter and water seperator are properly installed. again i am ASSUMING this.<br /><br />i am trying to contact the yamaha rep for my area to discuss this issue with him.

I have twin f225's and my starboard engine is having the same problem. We have replaced injectors twice and seems to run ok now. Also replaced all of the fuel lines. The problem I'm still having is a rough idle problem (see post from today). Did you find out what was wrong with your engine yet? Mine was an edgewater factory rig. Thanks in advance.

It took from about 50 hrs - 245 hrs to get to the bottom of the problem... vst tanks. Yam said 'bad gas', but that wore thin, and finally found a mechanic who knew of the problem, and fixed it. It was covered, but I had to go thru Yam division (in Kennasaw GA) to get it done. That mechanic has had several bigger 4-strokes to fix, with this problem. And Yam. gets on his case about it (seems they dont understand why the vst tank needs replacing). It frustrated me for a long time (months... I even had my gas run thru a cleaner at Yam suggestion, to see if it was bad.. it wasnt). Keep an eye on the level of your engine oil, and be sure the dip stick isnt going UP on the oil level (gas leaking into engine).<br />Maybe you have a different problem. I'm no mechanic. You may want to consider this though. Find a 'very good' Yam 4-stroke mechanic (5 * dealer). Good luck.
