I dropped my lower unit to replace the impeller and oil seals and just in front of the shifting cam is a plastic nipple and hose. The nipple was broke and the hole that the nipple threads into was clogged. I tried to clean it out the best I could, but it's still clogged. My question is , what is the purpose of this assembly and whats the best way to try to clean the gunk out of it? Thanks for the help, Mike.

That sounds like the speedo tube...there is a tiny, tiny hole in front of lower unit that water shoots into @ speed, goes thru tube, up, thru another tube alllll the way to the speedo...some boats use this, some use paddlewheels on xducers, some use gps...it ain't needed.

Thank You for the reply, I felt like it was a dumb question but this is my first outboard and it's obvious I don't know much about them... but I'm learning. Thanks again, Mike
