yamaha 225 hp lower unit plastic nipple

I dropped my lower unit to replace the impeller and oil seals and just in front of the shifting cam is a plastic nipple and hose.The nipple was broke and the hole that the nipple threads into was clogged. I tried to clean it out the best I could, but it's still clogged. My question is , what is the purpose of this assembly and whats the best way to try to clean the gunk out of it? That sounds like the speedo tube...there is a tiny, tiny hole in front of lower unit that water shoots into @ speed, goes thru tube, up, thru another tube alllll the way to the speedo...some boats use this, some use paddlewheels on xducers, some use gps...it ain't needed.
