2001 - 250 hp, fuel injected, 2 stroke. I recently replaced the high pressure injection pump. Problem I'm told was too long a layup (1 year with stabalized fuel).

Need an expert opinion on this layup process - boat will be outdoor, Great Lakes area for about 8 months. How about (1) stabilizing the fuel with Yamaha stabilzer and running for 20 minutes or so; (2) disconnecting the fuel line to the VST; (3) running the engine until it stalls hence having the VST totally empty and dry. Will this save (perhaps) the high pressure pump? Also, I've heard mixed stories on whether to fog the engine. Heard that it clogs the injectors. Opinions please. Thanks.

Re: Yamaha 250 OX66 winter layup question

first I gotta ask how will spraying fogging oil into the throttle plates affect the fuel injectors?
second you cant run all the fuel out of the VST, thats what the little brass drain screw on the bottom is for.
most stabilizers state on the can its only good for up to 6 months and then only if the fuel was fresh.
in reality we see todays fuels degrading in about 3 months even with a stabilizer.
usually if the pump is just stuck I can soak them in a jar of combustion chamber cleaner overnight and brek them free.
if you use the VST drain method it takes 15 minutes or more to allow the pump and rail to fully drain.
those pumps are just to expensive not to try to save them.
I replaced a pump on a 200 HPDI last week, they are 836 dollars now but the last person that tried to unstick it did not soak it first and burned out the motor windings.
when people tell you things it must pass the logic test before you can believe it,unless your studying Radar theory and wave propagation.
then the "I believe button" is your friend :)
