Since day 1 my new outboard sputters when going from low to high speed. The dealer doesn't seem to know what to do, its been in 3-4 times. Runs fine at low or after it at high speeds.

Question:
1) what is the default mixture setting for the carb.
2) what should the timing be set to.
3) Any other suggestions or comments would be welcome.

Thanks!

Peter

For some reason in the manual the low speed carb. adjustment screw are set up different on all three carbs.top carb 1/2 to 1 turn, middle carb 1 1/2 to 2 turn @ the bottom carb 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 turns. As far as timing you will need a manual there are three different of setting that has to be check they show pick up timing, idle full retard and full advance

I own a 91 model and it sounds like mine does exactly the same thing. I hate to touch anything though as it idles beautifully for backtrolling and runs smooth at full throttle.

According to the 2001 Yamaha tune-up spec manual; the top carb is set to 3/4 turn, middle - 1 3/4 turns, and bottom at 1 turn.

Idle timing is 5 ATDC and carb pickup timing is 2 ATDC and WOT timing is 25 BTDC.
