Yamaha 3hp

I have an 18 foot full console aluminum, I can get a 3hp Yamaha for a good price do you think it has enough kick for a kicker motor.<br />Thanks

That depends on the water and current you may be in, L18F.<br /><br />Three HP will move you about 3-5kt in still water. If you are in high wind, currents over 3kt or choppy water forget the kicker.<br /><br />Most folks will tell you that you need at least 6-8hp for all conditions backup. I think I agree.
