Used to be intermittent - motor stops after 2/3 minutes.

Now this is more persistent from starting.

Plug is fouled very quickly.

Is the carb / fuel system the likely cause? If it is, how easy is it to clean inside the carb?

Any help gratefully received!

All depends. If the motor is not firing right, then the weak cylinder/s would be wet from lack of fire, but more than likely you have a carb problem and they will have to be taken off and cleaned good and maybe just a good ol' rebuild on them to be on the safe side, because you could have a problem that cleaning won't take care of, but first determine that the engine is firing on all cylinders and get back to the forum, for there is always someone around that will be than glad to help if they can. :)

Thanks - the engine is a single cylinder that I used as an auxilliary, so it hasn't had lots of regular use. When it runs it seems sweet enough but it has this annoying habit of randomly going splutter , smoking and dying.

Any ideas?
