Hi--

I stored my 2000 4 stroke Yamaha 6hp on the wrong side(side without tiller arm) overnight. I mounted the engine on the boat and tried to start it but I could not pull the cord. I removed the cover off the flywheel and manually moved the flywheel around. I undid my plugs and oil came out. I am not sure what to do. I know that I probably got oil on the cylinder heads What should I do?

Thanks

Pull your plug and drain your oil. Let it drain at least 24 hrs. With the cord, turn the motor a little to get more oil out and turn again. Get a new plug. Check for oil in the air intake and remove as needed. Install new plug, add proper amount of oil. Get water going before you start engine. If it runs, go fishing. I'm not an expert. Thats just what I would do.

JRJ is right. Shouldn't need to drain the crankcase though. Just remove plugs, pull it over a few times to expel excess oil. Install new plugs. BE SURE TO TOP OFF THE OIL. You may need to repeat this process but once the engine start, it may smoke a bit but it should quickly smooth out and run normally.

Hi--I tried the above and the engine will not start. When I pull the plugs they have oil on them. Can I turn the engine on it's side to expel oil out of the spark plug holes? Or how about injecting gas into the holes then putting the plugs back in and trying to start?

Thanks--the king salmon are biting and i'm stuck in the driveway!

Another note to add. After I stored the outboard on the wrong side I manually moved the flywheel several time. The flywheel was very hard to turn. I have a feeling a blew a ring?
