Thinking about a purchase of it's either a 99 or 2000. he said his dealer told him top crank bearing needs replaced since no movement above the stator.
Is this a project for a do-it yourselfer (me) ? Or leave it to the pro's. What kind of time / $$$ would I be lookin at ? Of course the purchase of a repair manual would be first!

No movement above the stator would indicate the crank is broken. I would suggest you have a mechanic check before considering it.
