I bought a 2000 Key Largo last summer with a 2002 yamaha 50 on it. It ran fine last summer, I took it out in December and had problems with it. First it would not start, and when it did it would not run when in gear. I brought it home, added fresh fuel with Stabil, changed the spark plugs and tried it today. It runs great at idle, but when I put it in gear (for/rev) it cuts out. Fuel filter is clean, fuel/water separator needs replacing. Is it electrical? It just started suddenly in Dec., when I parked it in Aug. it was running fine? Help please, I wanna go fishing.

Re: Yamaha 50 cuts out

Most likely it's fuel related.

Gummed up carbs will exhibit the symptoms you described. Warmer temps of your area will allow carbs to varnish up more quilckly. A rebuild with compressed air and a fine wire for all the tiny passages may be in order.

Plugged filters can do the same. Unless they were just changed, change 'em.

You also may have some debris in your fuel tank clogging the pick-up tube. Try to borrow another tank and see if it eliminates the problem.
