I have a 60 hp 2 stroke that has been in the garage for about 1 year. I just recently changed the spark plug, oil change. It started up great then on july 4th I filled the gas up ready to fish all day. It barely kept staying running, and I always started in nutrual and it made me pump it to stay started. I burned a whole tank of gas and that is not usually....it ended up dying right as I brought it in the dock. SMILE! I cant get it back into nutrual and it wont start. My 1st thought is the gas was old, or I have a slow leak. I want to check the carb but I have NO idea how to do that. NOW I have saltwater in the engine and its not making me feel good.

HELP??????

Re: yamaha 60ph help

well thats not good leaving it up for along time. I had to pay to get my carbs cleaned and will try to keep them cleaned by adding additives to my gas everytime I fill up and proper winterizing .You said it sat up for a year and you had to pump it so it sounds like carbs to me or fuel pump maybe and good luck on getting any help on this site. Half these people dont know crap from what I see .

wish I could help you out

I have a 70 hp it set up before I bought it,worked fine a few times then it just would not run out .changed plugs ,gas checked fuel filter it ran great on land put it in the water and no good. took it to the shop last week it is the carbs ,looking at about $600 to fix.Should get it back tomorrow. You can get a lot of good ideas from this site but if you are not a mechanic you may want to take it to the shop.

Re: yamaha 60ph help

You can take it the tech and pay $600 +/- they will clean your carbs, link and sinc and do a tuneup or spend considerably less on a factory manual and work with the brains trust in these forums to keep your motor in ship shape condition.

I have the same motor, your fuel lines and filiter need to be checked for restrictions/leaks and filter replaced, the carbs need to be cleaned, your fuel pump needs to be tested, and timing checked. You need a manual pretty basic set of tools, a tach and timing light and mulit meter should do the trick.
