No you cannot. That is a urban myth and they say it because so many blocks are shared most inexperienced people think that is the controlling factor.

Amyhow, I am personally very disapointed with my 2000 yamaha 9.9. It simply cannot be fixed and I cannot sell it to anyone in the condition it is in. Only 200 hours and it never ran really right.
Be careful on any four strok with a carb.

My friend runs a 9.9 and has had very good luck with his. Sounds like you have a real lemon.

Hard to believe there's anything only 4 yrs old that can't be fixed. Have you run it by the experts in the repairs forum - they are terrific....

Also as far as the 2435'th question on upgrading an engine to a higher hp on the same block. It is not quite true that it can't be done because obviously the manufacturers do it. But it requires so many critical modifications to the engine, not to mention expensive parts, and a lot of expertise, that it's not worth it.

Anything can be fixed if you are willing to pay the freight.

Some things aren't worth fixing, but I doubt that your Yammy is in that category.

JB is right on the money :) you may just be experiencing some minor fuel related problems and your repair guy probably figures that you probably have a fat wallet.
