when putting into gear if done fast a banging sound is heard done slowly a mild grinding sound is heard normal or adjusting needed? Dealer says there is no problem

Sounds normal to me, but I never stayed in a Holiday Inn Express.

Normal.

Your DO NOT want to shift the engine slowly. That will round off the ears on the clutch dog. If that happens, it won't stay in gear under load. Read $$$$.

I have the same motor (2005) and it does the same thing.

a solid thump when engaging a gear is good, the grinding chatter is even better.
that slow shift grinding chatter means daddy gets new shoes.
