Hi i have a 2008 yamaha f150 with 130 hrs on it. In the summer time when i checked the oil level it was about 3/4, the last time that i used it before winterisation i ran it very hard. I went to check the level after about a month and it is well above the high level. I am not an expert and I thought that maybe the oil in the oil filter has came down and the oil level came high. Can this really happen? Also my motor is a bit over propped because I ran about 5300 wot and i have a yamaha black stainless steel 13 3/4 x 21-M . If you think that this is my problem prop suggestions are appriciated. I have an Avon 620 and the top speed is about 48 mph gps, would like to have an allround good prop that offers a good ride.

Thanks!

Avon, the F150 needs to run at the high end of the RPM range WOT with a "normal" load, otherwise she will make oil. 5800-6000 RPM is perfect. You might try a 19P

Also a lot of motors come from the factory set too deep and you might pick up some RPM by raising the motor one or two holes, takes a bit of time to get the height correct but worth while. My F150 made oil when it was new for both reasons.

Propping correctly & how to test props.....

The Yamaha F150 oil pan is non-linear, meaning it is tapered with the bottom having more capacity than the top.
So it takes less oil to move the oil level up on the dipstick the higher the level is. Also the dipstick is not vented, so if you just pull the dipstick to check the level rather than wiping it off first you can get an incorrect level.

The correct oil level after service is in the middle of the H-L crosshatch area. Yamaha also recommends tilting the motor at least halfway up the trim range for a few minutes to drain the block before check the oil:

stuck open stat causing a cold running motor is also a cause of making oil
along with leaking fuel pump and lots if trolling (low RPM running)

Check oil level and change often, as fuel contaminated fuel does not lubricate as well

If I read this correctly, it was about 3/4 to the top mark when you winterized it and now its over the top line. So you haven't used the engine since winterizing it? If this is correct, then its just the oil that has drained down that has put it over the line. What I have found on the four strokes, they will not take the full amount of oil that is printed on the sticker without going over the line. I usually back off 1/2 a quart and that usually puts it where it needs to be. Just suck some oil out and see what it does.

Thanks all of you for your suggestions! the 3/4 reading was taken the day before I used it last time so I am not sure if it made oil the last time I ran it. I am going to suck some oil and also interested in changing the prop. I am hoping for some good weather and some chance and will try it and let you know my answers. Thanks all of you for now.

If it is making oil the dip stick will smell like gasoline.
