I just had my yearly tune/oil/checkup. Mechanic says the harmonic balancers are noisy at idle and should be replaced. Anyone hear of this before?
Thanks, JIm

Re: Yamaha F150 Harmonic Balancers Noisy

I dropped my 06 F150 off for yearly service last week. I called to check the status today and was told they had to replace the balancer as well. I am curious to see if this is a wide spread issue. They said it was covered under the warranty.

yes some ofd the early run F150 models had balancer issues.
DO NOT run it with a noisy balancer assy and yes Yamaha will cover the repairs if done at an aurthorized Yamaha service facility.

Re: Yamaha F150 Harmonic Balancers Noisy

yes I believe there is and its a code 90 repair.
should be in the 06 or 07 tech guide.
luckily I have caught the ones I have done before they grenaded.
makes it a lot easier.
once the nylon teeth start shedding it makes oil sump removal mandatory.
thats when it gets hard.
at least if it fails, and not all did, it doest take the powerhead with it.
it seems some had to tight of a clearence on the nylon gear teeth and the teeth start to fail.
