Yamaha F150 Pisser Blockage

I've had the pisser on my F150 (2008 with only 50 hours) become blocked twice in the past couple of months. I'm lucky that I caught it the first time, and now it is something I check every time I start the engine.

Both times it has been just some brown crap right inside the exit hole. I took a small plastic tube and poked until I got it flowing. The lake I ride on has pretty clear water, but I guess I could have sucked in some leaves or junk. In both instances the boat had been sitting for at least 3 weeks without running, so I'm wondering if that could have something to do with it. Is this a common problem. What is the best way to clear and keep clear the pisser?

Thanks!

not a problem just poke it out every now and then. The engine is still getting water its there to let you know its cooling. your going to always pick up trash and gook so you'll get plenty of practice.

insects like to build nests in them, you can try putting a plug in it to keep them out and just remove it when you get ready to start it

Thanks for the replies. I've made a "pisser poker" out of a small plastic tube that I will carry as standard equipment now. I'll probably stick something over the end when I store it for longer than a couple of weeks.
