Yamaha F200 Oil Pressure

I have an F200 with about 400 hours on it. I have had problems with the Low oil pressure switch reading low, and shuting the engine to 1200 revs. I have changed this (£250.00!), and still have the same problems............any ideas

that set up is on a map, without my manual I think the minimum oil pressure is about 40PSI idle and will vary to 80 psi or depending on RPM. if the map in the ecu does not see the correct oil pressure for the RPM it goes into speed reduction. best to use the laptop in see what the ECU see's then verify it with a mechanical guage.

I have made up a "pipe" to go from the engine to a mechanical gauge, with a T piece so I can also connect the origional pressure gauge/switch and connect the laptop. I should be able to make a comparison between the mechanical and digital readout. I am doing this in the Solent on Monday. I dony know what to do with the results, but hopefuly they should confirm something.

Sea trials could not repeat the problem. Last year I had the same issue and fitted a new oil pressure switch. This seemed to cure the issue for a while and now its back. Could it be a poor electrical connection between th sender and cable connector?

it could.<br /> the ECU monitors oil pressure Via a potentiometer type device, it feeds a 5V reference signal through the sender and picks off a voltage. that voltage represents wiper arm motion which represents how much pressure it took to move the wiper.<br /> the ECU also monitors engine RPM.<br /> it has a map that compares RPM to oil pressure and sounds an alarm if the two do not stay in the map.<br /> it does NOT work like the sender on grannies impala. same pressure principle but a vastly differing method of applying it.
