Yamaha F4 4hp telltale

I noticed that the telltale on my Yamaha F4 4hp is spitting water whereas someone else with the same motor is getting a stream of water. Both were observed the same day and both at idle speeds. I also noted that the temp coming out of my telltale was definately warmer than the other F4's. I don't know the year on the other F4, but I doubt they changed anything that would explain the difference?<br /><br />Mine is a 2001 OB, leftover purchased last year, fresh water use only, very limited use on a sailboat. Should I expect a stream vs. spitting? Should I get a continuous stream at even mid level RPMs?
