yamaha f40 reg/rectifier wire

Trying to find out what the gray wire that comes off of the reg/rectifier and connects to the green wire in the main harness that runs to the remote control does. I am adding electric start to a tiller model that did not come with it.<br /><br />thanks

its for the tach signal.

thanks for the info will any tach hook up to it or does it have to be a yamaha

any tach that can read 12 pole or 6 pulse will work but wont have a visual alarm indicate.
