Hello,
New here. Fishing buddy bought his first boat - used. Has Yamaha Pro50 on it. On two first trips after powering down from plane the motor wouldn't do anything more than idle. Would sputter and bog down on acceleration..... After idling towards shore for quite a while, lol, it started to accelerate normally again. Did this twice. Was fine for a few more trips then did it "permanently". Starts and idles fine.
Couple of maybe important things..
He thought he was supposed to put in 5 OZ! of oil per six GALLONS~!~ of gas for the first two 6 gal tanks he burned through. He did run through 6 gallons of properly mixed gas/oil recently when it was running fine until this started again, he changed fuel tanks and it did allow him more rpm's but not full acceleration.
He hasn't charged his batteries and has had his boat out at night twice and bilge pump works almost contantly..
He was told this morning he should have been charging his batteries....maybe hurt his stator.
I don't know what a stator is! It's his boat and I think if you have a boat you need to know at least the basics of motors and problems that might pop up and not just count on Sea Tow, HAHAHAHA.
He's going to have an outboard mechanic look at it but do you have ideas on what might be going wrong? Doesn't make sense to me that it would idle fine and not run at speed unless something clogged or some kind of "secondary" carb or electronic thingy isn't opening or working. Sea Foam LOL????
On another note the durn tilt isn't working right and leaks. Fairly easy to take off and bring to a shop for rebuilding? Can't run a boat in Tampa Bay without Tilt!
Thanks,
Tom in St. Pete
