Yamaha Reverse Lock Problem

Thanks in advance for your help. (I searched for a previous thread, but couldn't find one.)

My Yamaha 225 (year 2000/2-stroke/OX66) won't lock down in reverse.

I just bought it used and had it mounted. My old '88 Yamaha 200 crapped out right before my 2-wks visitation with my kids, so I was in a time crunch. I bought a this 225 from a local shop.

When I put the motor in reverse (it's on a Boston Whaler Outrage), it kicks up--especially if I have to hit the throttle with some umph, like yesterday when some dude didn't yield ROW in the channel.

I'm getting ready to call the guy that sold and installed the motor and was hoping to call armed with some knowledge.

Is this a tilt/trim problem, missing locking bar/clamp, or something else?

Thanks!

Re: Yamaha Reverse Lock Problem

Hmmm...I followed one of the "similar thread" links for a Mercury. After following that to a few other the web pages, I thought to look beyond the obvious hooks and locking bar.

It seems the motor never had--or I lost--the bolt that goes through the clamp bracket and trim/tilt shaft. I guess that might do it.
