So I just swapped my 1977 v4 85hp Johnson motor for a 1991 Yamaha 70hp, everything went well until my steering cable broke. The cable is still fine but the plastic broke off by the steel and nut that hooks on to the motor. So I can turn left but not right anymore. Is there a way I can maybe clamp or repair that? Or do I need to get a new cable?

Also my boat is a 1986 Procraft bass boat 1650. Are steering cable universal or is it dependent on the make and model of boat?

Steering cables are universal. A complete new systemm, either rack or rotary, is not too expensive. I'd just go that route.
