Yamaha T8 or T9.9 ??

Are they really worth the extra dollars they are asking? I've sent for several quotes from dealers on the net, I will be courious what kind of respone I will be getting. If I should buy one, then I would sell my 1997 Honda 15HP, what would it be worth? I know this is a wide open type question, but maybe worthy of some discussion.

Just wondering why you consider swapping a (assumed) working late model 15 for a 8 or 10 hp? Are you dealing with lake /HP restrictions? Is the Honda giving you grief? Also why only consider the Yami?

FWIW, from my outboard buying/selling hobby, I'm guessing you could get $1250 +/-$100 for the Honda 15.

Lot of hours on it, I have taken good care of it, but just figure it is time to change.

like a 1000? cause realively speaking isnt a lot u know. as long as u do the service intervals and maitenece required maybe a few dealer check ups like once a year. it should run fine for eyars to come

u know what i would do


do a decarb on ur motor. check compression on it. tell us the numbers. tell us about the cosmetic condition of ur motor. i believe honda is fourstroke on it right? carb or efi? adjust valves timeing chain all the other u need for fourstrokes. when was the last time u changed the oil? if u dont like adjusting the valves timeing etc take it to a dealer. when was impeller changed and gear oil?

If I'm reading the info right these motors must be closley related weight is only 5-15 lbs different. 8hp to 15 hp.I'd buy the biggest I could afford.
And forget the 8.

I'm not a 4 stroke fan.And at 3,000 hours I'd be even less interested.
If it was a 2 stroke and checked out sound I'd keep it.
If I was buying new and could go with 25 or 30 it would be the new little Etec.Its about 25lbs more than the Yamaha 15 but a heck of a lot more motor.Of course he's looking at a 9.9 So I'm way out of line with 25 talk.

I use my little motor strictly as a kicker for emegency and to troll for salmon. I just something to move my 23WA about 1.5-3.5 miles per hour for fishing and some to keep off the rocks and get me back home from about 15 miles out in the islands, lot different thatn fishing a lake. I just repowered with a 225 Honda, which could be used for trolling.

well thats is true it is a fourstroke. well if u can afford the motors and to change em again go ahead. etec get pricey with all the big things in the motor

Considering the cost of a tow, it is cheap reliable insurnce to me , not counting the peace of mind.
