Yamaha trim indicator

I have a Yamaha 40 4-stroke with the digital gauges. The trim indicator on the tach is out of adjustment. When the engine is full down the indicator shows about 2. When it is full up the indicator shows off scale high.

I can live with the off scale high when the engine is fully up, but how do I reset the indications for full down?

The indicator worked ok at one time, but now it is out of calibration. There is no information about reseting this in the engine owner's manual.

Thanks.

Re: Yamaha trim indicator

There is really no calibration there. Either the plastic wiper is broken, new replacements are metal or the shaft on the position transducer is stuck and corroded. WD-40 will take care of the transducer shaft. If you need a new wiper, there is an index point pressed into the collar which matches up with a hole in the shaft. The new wiper goes under the spring loaded plastic piece on the transducer. FRED

PI Fred,

Can you tell me how to identify the position transducer?

Thanks.
